Study of Stability of Transition Segment for Bifurcation Tunnel

Abstract

The methods of numerical analysis and geomechanics model were used to simulate the excavation of the two transition segments, i.e. large-span-tunnel to multi-arch-tunnel and multi-arch-tunnel. Key section on construction spot was monitored. Finite element method was applied to numerical analysis, while the combined type 3-D geomechanical model test system and iron barites sand cementation material(IBSCM) were developed in model test. The results of site monitoring measurement by three methods were compared. Results show that the parts of transition segment vault, interval wall and interval rock column are effected by the tunnel excavation seriously. Transition segmentⅡis more dangerous than transition segmentⅠ.
