Abstract

Authors analyzed the equilibrium choices for travel modes of travelers, travel routes and parking facilities based on the network equilibrium theory. The pricing models for parking facilities under different market regimes were proposed. The market regimes included monopoly, oligopolistic competition and social optimum. The parking facilities included off-street parking lots in urban areas and park-and-ride sites at the edge of the urban central areas. A numerical example was used to illustrate the application of the proposed models. The solutions for different market regimes were also compared. Results show that monopoly regime leads to the highest parking charges, the smallest demands of parking, the lowest social welfare, and the highest total system profit. The results for the social optimum regime are reverse of the previous one, and the results for oligopolistic competition regime remain between them.
