Study on Stability of Segment Lining Structure for Shield Tunnel

Abstract

In order to provide references for the design and construction of segment lining structure of shield tunnel, aimed at large cross-section shield tunnel, the influences of strata resistance coefficient, strata lateral pressure coefficient, bending stiffness of segment joint and segment assembling mode on the stability of shield tunnel were analyzed with nonlinear finite element method. Compared with results of the instability failure model test, the instability failure judgment suggestion based on ultimate displacement and diameter change rate for the segment lining structure of shield tunnel was presented. The results show that the influence of strata condition on stability of shield tunnel is first, segment joint bending stiffness is second and segment assembling mode is third. The smaller the strata resistance is, the greater the probability of instability failure of shield tunnel is. The flexible segment joint and straight joint assembling mode will reduce stiffness of the segment lining structure, and weaken shield tunnel stability. The segment lining structure is in the plastic working condition with cracks when the shield tunnel is instable. The instability type belongs to the second category instability (extreme point instability) of structural stability theory.
